New dosing units for beverage stabilization
Specialty chemicals company LANXESS has developed Velcorin DT Touch, a new generation of dosing units for the beverage industry. This new range is now being marketed worldwide for the filling of Velcorin as a cold sterilization agent in non-alcoholic beverages and wine. The high-quality dosing units manufactured in Germany and featuring aseptic connections and design meet the strict purity requirements of the beverage industry. They are easy and safe to handle, with control and visualization of the dosing process enabled by a touch panel. Velcorin DT dosing units ensure exact dosing and excellent distribution of Velcorin in the beverage. The state-of-the-art dosing units can be easily integrated into new or existing beverage production lines and only require a small initial outlay.
The range comprises seven same-size models that differ in terms of beverage flow rate. The processing capacity of the smallest unit Velcorin DT 3 Touch is between 600 and 3,600 liters per hour, while the capacity of the largest is between 13,200 and 79,200 liters per hour. “The individual configuration depends on the volume of beverage that needs to be produced. We offer advice on location to enable the customer to choose the right model,” says Ingo Broda, head of the Beverage Technology business line in LANXESS' Material Protection Products (MPP) business unit.
Velcorin is added during the beverage production. Even at low concentrations, the LANXESS product has an outstanding effect on typical microorganisms: it penetrates the cells and deactivates their key enzymes. Following its addition to the beverage, Velcorin quickly breaks down into tiny amounts of methanol and carbon dioxide – natural components that are already present in many drinks such as fruit and vegetable juices and wine. It affects neither taste nor odor or color of the beverage. “This important product benefit has in particular won over enologists all over the world, who have to achieve a high standard in winemaking year in year out,” adds Broda. Velcorin can be used in this segment too in line with the national and international regulations of the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine).
“With our Velcorin technology we not only offer an effective solution for the cold sterilization of beverages but, in combination with our new Velcorin DT Touch dosing equipment, a truly all-round service, including maintenance of the devices,” adds Broda. The MPP experts also offer support for laboratory and practical testing and extensive registration management.
