We believe in an open dialogue with the communities in which we live and work. Providing information to neighbors and gathering feedback from area stakeholders about our operations is very important to us.
We support a number of community events, and aim to engage with our stakeholders in a variety of formats – from regular public meetings and door-to-door contact with neighbors, to site visits and open houses at the facility, as well as various other community group discussions. We also engage students from local elementary and high schools and support various programs at the University of Waterloo.
In 2020, LANXESS launched a new Elmira Community Advisory Panel (CAP), which is made up of local citizens, community leaders and stakeholders. The group meets quarterly to have an open dialogue about the facility and its operations, discussing community questions and concerns, as well as sharing ideas on ways to reduce impacts, improve operations and become a better corporate citizen. You can read more about our CAPs here.
LANXESS is also a member of the Township of Woolwich Community Awareness and Emergency Response (CAER) group, which is a partnership between industry and government formed to promote community safety and to reduce the risks to health, safety and the environment within the region. The CAER group provides community education and is an effective response system in the event of an emergency.
The Remediation Advisory Committee (RAC) is a committee of the Council of the Township of Woolwich. It was established to address the Elmira site’s environmental legacy issues in an effort to provide information and make recommendations to Council related to remediation around the facility.
The Technical Advisory Group (TAG) is a citizen body formed to review technical advice from qualified persons and provide advice and recommendations to the RAC.

LANXESS takes pride in being able to also give back to the communities in which we live and work.
Over the years, the Elmira facility has either provided funding to support national, provincial and local organizations for a wide range of causes or developed partnerships within the community to benefit Elmira residents. We’ve partnered with area schools and universities to provide hands-on learning experience and spur interest in careers related to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), sponsoring programs like the Elmira District Secondary School’s FIRST Robotics program.
